What kind of events can I join at Next Gen Men?

Next Gen Men might be best known for our work with youth and educators — BUT did you know that Next Gen Men has a whole calendar filled with events that YOU CAN JOIN?! We host many different kinds of events for adults who are interested in conversations about patriarchy, masculinity, and gender equity.

TLDR: Sometimes challenging, funny, or heartfelt, but always interesting — NGM events unpack gender in ways that are meaningful and approachable. Check out the calendar and subscribe to our newsletter to stay current on events!

Next Gen Men is building a future where men & boys experience less pain and cause less harm. To that end, we’re unpacking how #patriarchy and other social forces shape men’s lives (and by extension, everyone in men’s lives) and how we can show up as change-makers in our communities!

But what does that actually look like?!

Here’s how YOU can get involved in our community:

🟠 Join a Circle Event

We’ve been hosting these since 2016 (anyone remember the Wolf Pack?!) We dive into a topic, unpacking how our gender socialization may have affected us (and those around us!). We’ll typically hear from storytellers (who share personal or professional experiences), take a look at media representations, explore some stats and facts, and have plenty of time for discussion.

These events are public & multi-gender!

You can check out past events here. Sign up for our newsletter to hear about future Circle events!

🌊 Join a Deep Dive

Deep Dives are member-led, one-hour discussions on wide-ranging topics — but always linked in some way to masculinities, gender equity, mental wellness, and/or healthy relationships. The host will pick a topic and 3-5 discussion questions to guide the conversation!

Become a next gen member to take part! Anyone can become a member.

On February12, join the Deep Dive conversation about how to find balance while striving to grow

🍿 Join a Film Screening & Discussion

We’ll periodically host film screenings and discussions. We’ll pick a film, watch it together, and think of discussion questions throughout. When the credits roll, we’ll talk about the themes, our reactions, and the wider messages of the movie.

Folks of all genders are welcome to take part! Some of our film screenings are public and others are menbers only.

On January 29th we’re hosting a Film Screening & Discussion on the film Stutz (NGMenbers only).

💬 Join a Workshop
These are expert-led workshops where we can practice social-emotional skills for developing deeper and more meaningful relationships, learning to resolve conflicts, improving our mental well-being, and more. Learning and unlearning requires practice!

These events are public & folks of any gender can join! Menbers get 15% off registration!

February’s Workshop is the first of (hopefully) many workshops on emotional literacy! Join us on February 18th to build skills for healthier relationships & emotional intelligence.

🎟 Join a Special Event

Sometimes, we partner with other awesome organizations, or simply want to try out something different!

Next month, for example, we’re working with Story Money Impact to bring the documentary QUINN to more folks, and listen in on a fantastic panel conversation featuring folks from the film! Learn more & register here!

🎉Join a Social

Periodically, our members & volunteers gather to hang out in-person in the cities where most of us live: Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto, and Vancouver. We might meet up at the beach, go for pizza, sing karaoke, go bowling, attend festivals and events together, and more! Whatever we want to do!

Become a next gen member to join the crew!

📚 Get Reading with BOOK Club

B.O.O.K. Club—Beyond Our Own Knowledge—invites men and male-identifying folks to join a 11-week cohort of peers, dig into a curated book, and connect with each other to unpack what we’ve read, and unlearn something new about our privilege and perspectives in the world.
